What does leadership mean to you?

“What leadership means to me is bringing others together as one and helping them do things they have never tried before.” –Shelby, 11, Girl Scout Junior

Girl Scouts say a leader is defined not only by the qualities and skills one has, but also by how those qualities and skills are used to make a difference in the world. With the Leadership Experience, you will discover yourself, connect with other Girl Scouts and your community, and take action to make the world a better place.  These are Girl Scouting’s “three keys to leadership”.

Discover + Connect + Take Action = LEADERSHIP!

The Girl Scout Processes:

The Processes focus not on what we actually do, but how we engage ourselves in our activities, which create the ultimate Leadership Experience. Girl Scout experiences encourage learning by doing, cooperative learning, and are also girl led. These three processes ensure the quality and promote the fun and friendship which are so important to Girl Scouting!

Girl Led: Girl led is just what it sounds like—girls play an active part in figuring out the what, where, when, how, and why of their activities. They lead the planning and decision-making as much as possible.

Learning by Doing: A hands-on learning process that engages girls in continuous cycles of action and reflection that result in deeper understanding of concepts and mastery of practical skills.

Cooperative Learning: Through cooperative learning, girls work together toward shared goals in an atmosphere of respect and collaboration that encourages the sharing of skills, knowledge, and learning.

A good leader... Girls

The Framework of your Leadership Experience:

When Discover, Connect, and Take Action activities are girl led and involve learning by doing and cooperative learning, girls achieve the desired and expected short-term leadership outcomes, ultimately resulting in Girl Scouts achieving its mission where girls have the courage, confidence, and character to make the world a better place.

Dive into the Journeys!

The Girl Scouts Leadership Experience takes you on a voyage with these three Journeys:

  • It’s Your World- Change it!
  • It’s Your Planet- Love it!
  • It’s Your Story- Tell it!  (Coming this winter!)

What do these Journeys mean to you? To your troop? To your community? To your world? Maybe the theme will help your troop chart the course for the year depending on what you are most interested in accomplishing and enjoying over the year. This is your chance to dig deeper, lead the way, and customize your Journey in Girl Scouts!

Leadership is...
