Volunteer Orientation Handbook
Sample Troop Year
Here is just one example of how you could set up your troop year. As long as you are basing your activities on the GSLE (using the three keys—discover, connect, and take action—and realizing the outcomes/benefits that Girl Scouts promises) and using the three processes (girl-led, learn by doing, and cooperative learning), there is no wrong way!
First-Aider: A Girl Scout first-aider is an adult who has taken Girl Scout council-approved first-aid and CPR training. First-aiders are needed for physically demanding activities, activities involving potential or injury and overnight activities. Refer to Safety Activity Checkpoints online for details.
Crisis/Emergency Procedures Cards: Provided by Girl Scouts of Manitou Council in the event of a crisis or emergency during the Girl Scout activity or meeting.
Volunteer Essentials: Online guide for Girl Scout advisors. Volunteer Essentials provides tools necessary to access council services, comply with policies, standards and guidelines to advise a safe, well managed troop. Volunteer Essentials can be found at www.gsmanitou.org.
