Troop 8014 from Ozaukee earned their Silver Award, for their project “Fighting Period Poverty - Educational Event called Girl Talk: Flow with Confidence”
After learning about period poverty and the barriers many girls face in accessing menstrual products and education, the troop set out to make a difference in their community. Period poverty refers to the lack of access to menstrual products, hygiene facilities, education, and support needed to manage menstruation safely and with dignity. The girls researched the issue, connected with local businesses, and organized an educational event to help raise awareness and provide resources to those in need.
Throughout their project, they:
Researched period poverty and menstrual health
Partnered with local businesses
Organized an educational event with guest speakers
Created emergency period kits for local schools
Assembled period education books and period trackers
Sewed rice heating packs for period cramps
On September 28, 2025, the troop hosted “Girl Talk: Flow with Confidence” in partnership with the Ozaukee Food Alliance. The event brought together girls and trusted adults to learn about periods, body changes, mental health, hygiene, and body positivity from local experts. Attendees also received hygiene supplies and participated in crafts and activities.
The supplies collected throughout the project were used to create emergency period kits, and any remaining donations were given to Ozaukee Food Alliance to continue supporting girls in the community.
Through this experience, the troop learned that period poverty is a widespread issue that affects communities everywhere. Their project helped provide education, resources, and confidence to girls who may not otherwise have access to menstrual health information or supplies, creating a lasting impact for future generations.
Congratulations, girls, on earning your Silver Award! This is a wonderful accomplishment, and you should be very proud of all the effort and commitment that brought you here.
