Troop 8091’s Bronze Award focused on eliminating the harsh and permanent language found on the walls and stalls of their middle school’s bathrooms. By designing a mural for both the women’s and men’s bathrooms respectively, the girls not only cleaned up and covered a large portion of the walls, but brightened it up to make it a safer place to be for over 300 students. By adding some positivity and color, taking a break is no longer in an environment of hostility towards peers that could have a detrimental effect on mental health. They learned a lot of professional skills through working with the school administration, and a lot of practical life skills through their work of planning, prepping, and painting their murals. But beyond that, they really got a first-hand look at how important it is for a space to be welcoming so that no one feels alone or isolated at school.
Congratulations Troop 8091 on becoming Bronze Award Girl Scouts! We can't wait to see what you do next.
