Troop 8192 from Grafton recently earned their Bronze Award
These Girl Scouts wanted to help Screech Owls and American Kestrels, so they took it upon themselves to build nesting boxes for both American Kestrels and Screech Owls. After learning about the dangers these birds face and how much nesting boxes help them, the girls decided to take action and create safe nesting spaces for them.
This project not only benefits these birds but also helps the local community. Screech Owls and American Kestrels serve as natural pest control, so supporting these birds also supports the environment and the community as a whole.
Throughout the project, the girls learned how to build proper nesting boxes for Screech Owls and American Kestrels using tools such as drills and hammers. They also discovered many interesting facts about these birds. For example, the American Kestrel is the smallest falcon species in North America. In addition, they learned about the important role these birds play in the ecosystem, the threats they face, and ways that people can help protect them.
