Seven amazing girls from Troop 8055 in Sheboygan worked hard to earn their Bronze Award by creating “Help for Shelter Pets.”
After working with the Sheboygan County Humane Society, the troop identified ways they could improve the lives of shelter animals while they waited to find their forever homes. The girls researched the needs of shelter pets and used skills they had learned through Girl Scouts to create enrichment items for the animals.
They learned about and created:
Tug toys
Cat beds
Cat trees
Animal enrichment activities
The troop also hosted money-earning activities to be able to purchase items from the Humane Society’s wish list, providing additional support for the animals in their care.
Throughout the project, the girls learned about the daily lives of shelter pets, money-earning, project planning, and woodworking. They put their measuring, cutting, and building skills to work while creating items that would enrich the lives of shelter animals.
Through their efforts, the troop helped provide comfort, stimulation, and a better experience for animals awaiting adoption. Their project not only benefited local shelter pets but also gave the girls valuable leadership, teamwork, and hands-on problem-solving skills.
